PEYTON/PAYTON/PATTON/PAXTON DNA RESEARCH
Dee Bekman is the PSV DNA Manager for the Payton/Peyton/Patton/Paxton DNA Surname Project on FamilyTreeDNA.com. The PSV had been using the World Families Net site. In May, 2018, that site closed, but the PSV was able to retain and save the project data. The data is now available at FamilyTreeDNA.com. Dee will work with members and manage, analyze, publish, and interpret PSV DNA data on the FamilyTree DNA site.

The Payton/Peyton/Patton/Paxton DNA Surname Project is open to all families with these surnames, of all spelling variations, and from all locations. A Surname DNA Project is a group of genealogy researchers who share a surname, or a genetic link to the surname, and who join together to use Y- DNA (male) testing, paper trails, family pedigrees, and research to identify those with whom they share a common ancestor. If you are a male, and also have Payton/ Peyton/ Patton/ Paxton as your surname, your Y-DNA can be very helpful to determining the origins of our specific ancestors. DNA testing results help prove relationships of Society Members and their place in Peytons of Virginia genealogical charts. All males with the above surnames are encouraged to participate in FamilyTreeDNA.com Y-DNA-67 marker testing, which is the current YDNA standard. To fully view the results of the Payton/ Peyton/ Patton/ Paxton Project and it's YDNA matches, one must have a FamilyTreeDNA kit number, which you receive when you order an Autosomal or YDNA FTDNA test.
There is Autosomal DNA testing for both females and males, where one does not have a surname the same a particular Surname DNA Project, but desires to find possible male and female cousin and common ancestor matches on both Peyton/Payton paternal and maternal family lines. We prefer that your initial autosomal DNA test purchase is through Ancestry.com. Currently, Ancestry.com allows your raw DNA test results to be downloaded to your personal computer. Currently, both FamilyTree DNA.com and Gedmatch.com allow free upload of your raw Ancestry.com data from your computer to their sites. This results in many more individuals who you will be able to match your DNA against, on three sites instead of only one, and incurring currently only one test fee. Information on this type of testing is available on many sites, such as Ancestry, FamilyTree DNA, Gedmatch, etc. Details regarding respective testing and transfer of DNA data can be found on those sites. Some testing sites do not allow testing results on their sites being transferred to other testing sites, or do not accept test results from other sites. For testing to be truely effective, you also need to add at minimum your Peyton (Payton) family tree to each site that contains your test results, so you can determine how your matches are related to you, and to facilitate search functions of other family trees easily. If a site requests that you name a beneficiary, please do, so your test results can remain for future generations to benefit.
The aim for many participants is to identify another participant who ''matches'' their test results, and who can help them find the paper trail that leads further back in the family tree. Due to the way DNA recombines, each generation farther from a genealogical common ancestor will be harder for future generations to detect in their DNA, so test your oldest living generation, NOW. When the DNA information is combined with family pedigrees and other relevant information, the full power of Genetic Genealogy is utilized.
